CCVGPG Utility Working Group: Sanitary Sewer Network GIS Data Model Update

My nephew, Julian Padilla, is working as an unpaid intern at KSN. His first project is to help me build a functional GIS for one of the small sanitary districts my company works for.

As part of this work I’ve been designing and documenting a GIS data model for a sanitary sewer network. My nephew will be implementing the data model. This work us being done under the umbrella of the CCVGPG Utility Infrastructure Working Group. All of the data model diagrams are being created in Inkscape. The diagrams and other documentation for the data model will be shared under a Creative Commons License and will be released through Redefined Horizons and the CCVGPG.

I should have a web page up at the CCVGPG for the data model diagrams I’ve completed so far in the next couple of days. I hope to also get a data model page up on the OSGeo Wiki.

So far, I’ve completed Simple Feature Attribute Diagrams for the two (2) main features in the data model, sanitary sewer pipes and sanitary sewer manholes. I’ve also completed Simple Feature – Feature Level Metadata Diagrams for these two feature types. I’ll be working on templates for both types of diagrams soon. After that, I’ll move on to a general entity relationships diagram, and then a diagrams for the topology tables.

Please contact me if you are interested in learning about the data model or participating in its design and documentation.

Spring Meeting of CCVGPG Scheduled

Bruce Joffe has graciously volunteered to give the main talk at the Spring Meeting of CCVGPG. His topic will be geospatial data licensing strategies and considerations for public agencies.

The meeting is schedule for Friday, March 16. It will be held at the SSJID office in Ripon.

I’m looking for a second speaker. Please contact me if your interested. If I can’t find a second speaker, I’ll give a talk about the Creative Commons, Public Domain, and Open Data Commons licenses to coincide with Bruce Joffe’s talk.

If you would like to sponsor our meeting and cover the cost of lunch, please let me know.
